gb_SYMBOL should not introduce full debugging symbols and Rene would likely
strongly object to having them since he uses small symbols in the release build
for debugging/stack traces.
Also note that there is already gb_DEBUG_CFLAGS, which does what you want on
DEBUGLEVEL 2.
