Dell just launched their 'Sputnik' developer laptop in the US,
(http://dell.com/sputnik) and potential purchasers can configure their
purchase online (http://www.dell.com/us/soho/p/xps-13-linux/pd.aspx)

The first two screens in the customization tool are very confusing.

The first screen in the 'customizing' tool is for Operating System and
shows a Ubuntu logo and offers a non-choice (one radio button
filled-in) of UBUNTU Linux. What's especially confusing is the set of
features described next to the Ubuntu logo (in the image):

----
featuring Mozilla Firefox 3.0 browser,
OpenOffice 3.0 for Word Processor,
Spreadsheet, Presentation,
Email/Calendaring, and with Photo,
Music & Video Applications
----

FF 3.0 was released in June 2008, and OOo 3.0 in October 2008. I'm
pretty confident that neither one ships with Ubuntu 12.04. Someone
must be using an *ancient* graphic!

Moving on to the next page in the customizing tool, labeled
"Productivity Software", we see a big graphic of (what else?)
Microsoft Office....but it's MS-Office 2010. Oops! The non-choice
radio button says "No Productivity Software Requested", which is in
direct conflict with the previous screen that indicated that Ubuntu
came with OOo 3.0. It's also really confusing in general -- why show a
picture of MS-Office, and then have no option to select MS-Office?
*headdesk*

It would be a big win for everyone if we could get in touch with
Ubuntu and Dell and offer to help them update these configuration
screens and graphics. Sure, developers aren't necessarily the heaviest
users of LO, but it would be nice for the project to get some
additional facetime whenever a Sputnik laptop is ordered.

If someone has contact info for Canonical or Dell, I'd be happy to
take the lead on talking with them.

Thanks!
