You forget media relations, which are going to be the cornerstone of our
marketing strategy. Media relations are for free, while advertising
needs a budget that we do not have (and in addition is less and less
relevant as a marketing tool for products).
In Europe, there are strong cases for the effectiveness of media
relations for the promotion of free software. We only need to duplicate
what has already been done in Europe, putting time and not money behind
the communication effort.
Of course, media relations need time and patience, but with some well
crafted strategies I am sure that we will shorten the learning curve to
make an impact in a reasonable timeframe.
Certainly media relations are important tools. Are there any
preparations being done for the US (and in my case the Canadian)
markets. Are there any individuals involved in this? It looks like the
distro is being released soon and there has been no communication with
the US list with regards to preparation and marketing strategies.
There was a lot of noise made right from the beginning with regards to
market penetration into the US market. How is this coming along?
