Good morning everyone, and merry Christmas!
Christian,
first of all, thanks for taking my notes into account. The rest follows.

1) Please rename Lithuanian from "Lietuviškai" to "Lietuvių kalba". This
wording fits better in the particular context.
Done. (the list of downloads is regenerated every 30 minutes, so might
not be visible immediately
I still don't see this change :(
2) The two drop-downs are of different height for me (Win7, Firefox 3.6,
Lithuanian base language, see
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/9219/dropdowns.png ). I presume this is
because of non-western scripts used in certain<option> elements (Telugu in
particular).
That's unfortunate resizing done by firefox. No such resizing done in
chromium for example http://frupic.frubar.net/17206
I think it's likely because different fonts are being used for different
scripts, at least in Firefox.
Specifying height and line-height of 25px and vertical-align:
middle for select elements solves the problem.
I don't really like this change, as it would maybe adjust the size for
western-script ones, but for those who cause the resize it will be
broken.
It has been mentioned on the german list already
http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss@de.libreoffice.org/msg01442.html
The big problem is that other fonts have a different baseline, thus
when you used fixed height, the text in the other checkboxes is pushed
halfway out of the box.
Can't repro. I just cycled through all the language – some names were
shown a bit offset to the buttom, but they all fitted inside the borders
well. I wouldn't call that broken. Furthermore, if this is indeed
broken, the obvious fix is to increase the height and line-height to
some bigger value (e.g. 30px). The drop-downs would look bigger, but
still remain of the same size and aligned well.
The different baselines of the fonts is also what makes a middle
alignment as you mentioned impossible.
They make baseline alignment impossible, which is why I suggested middle.
5) I don't quite like the fact that the font in the drop-downs is bolded.
But maybe it's just me.
Why don't you like it?
It's highly subjective, but to me it just looks a bit rough...
