Hi, :-)

I'm forwarding this message so you marketing and website guys can
start brainstorming about US English content for the SilverStripe
site...

I want a clean fight, no biting, no gouging and no flaming... <joke>
(And do not mention the word "Drupal" in this thread!) </joke> :-D

I currently have admin rights for the SilverStripe web at
https://test.libreoffice.org/ so I could maybe help out if you have
problems or needs.

David Nelson

Hi guys, :-)

I've seen German NL pages appearing on the SilverStripe site, and so I
started translating them into US English... But now I see someone is
working on an English-language outline on the Main site... Is what
I've done useful?

Duplicating the content is not useful - the NL groups are meant to
host content specific to the corresponding NL-project, whereas the
main page should feature "globally valid" content, stuff that is of
importance for any project. The main-page itself can host translated
versions of those pages.

(that is what I had in mind, but of course every goal fails if you
don't communicate clearly, or if people think it is a stupid idea :-))

Should I continue? Or do you guys just want to write
those Main site pages in German and then I translate them into English
for you?

See above - using the content from the german site as a starting point
is fine - but don't take all the content from the german pages as
reference wrt what should end up on the main page.

There have been some thoughts about the information architecture put
into the wiki, and although much of it is wishful thinking/future
stuff, it can be a starting point as to what should be added first.

That way you'd be getting your German content and your
English content at the some time... I'll hold off doing more
translation until I get instructions from you.

See above. If it really is about translations (i.e. duplicating the
content in a different language, as opposed to providing different
content for the same topic), it might be better to move it to the main
site and use silverstripe's translation feature, that way you get
links to the available translations automatically, as seen here for
example:
http://pumbaa.ooodev.org:7780/ has translations in french and german,
the links are automatically generated depending on what translations
exist for that page.

Hope that helps to clarify this a bit.

But as this is a topic of general interest, please post further
questions to the mailinglist
(and feel free to quote this response in full or in parts)

ciao
Christian
