Actually, MAC OS-X is UNIX-based, not Linux-based. There are many
commonalities, but they are not the same. Linux does support TTF and
OTF type fonts, but I'd be surprised if UNIX (and OS-X) did not.

I never use them. I remember that MacOSX is Linux based, so it should
allow you both TTF and OTF fonts types, so you have some options.
I do not know much about MacOSX except it was based on a version of Linux.
I do not know it LO "likes" Type 1 fonts.
