Hello,
I started downgrading my installation and the issue stopped occurring
in version 25.8.3. I tested the various versions with and without
zapping my user configuration (so it is not a question of tainted user
configuration). Then, in looking at the bugs corrected for Version
25.8.4 (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/25.8.4/RC1) [1],
this bug caught my eye:
26. tdf#168228 [2] Autorrect->Apply removes paragraph formatting
[Samuel Mehrbrodt]
So I reinstalled V26.2.1, went to Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoCorrect
Options and unchecked the options for "Delete spaces and tabs at
beginning and end of paragraph" and "Delete spaces and tabs at
beginning and end of line". And that seems to have fixed the issue (the
second one - "line" gets triggered when the end of line character is
inserted (Shift-Return), so I disabled to be really sure, but disabling
for end of paragraph works for most cases).
The remaining issue is now with the help, which claims:
Delete spaces and tabs at beginning and end of paragraph
Removes spaces and tabs at the beginning of a paragraph. To use this
option, the Apply Styles option must also be selected.
Delete spaces and tabs at end and start of line
Removes spaces and tabs at the beginning of each line. To use this
option, the Apply Styles option must also be selected.
But in my case (and I bet yours as well), the "Apply Styles" option is
not selected, meaning there is probably still a bug, but not too sure
as to what/where it is.
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Rémy.

I removed the newest LibreOffice version and downloaded the one
before that. The tabbing issue now appears in THAT version, too.
However, your suggestion to indent to 0.01 cm, before Text, does seem
to work. But I would prefer the bug to disappear. Is there any way
to make the bug disappear? (I don't want to indent every new
document I create.)

Hello,
I see the same issue with the Linux version. This definitely looks
like a bug.
However, I discovered that if your text is slightly indented, the
issue does not seem to occur. What I did:
- Edited the paragraph style
- Went to Indents & Spacing
- Set the "Before text" indent to 0.01 cm
- OK'ed the change
You can also do the same thing for any paragraph by moving the
markers in the horizontal ruler, but I find this to be less accurate.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Rémy.

I installed the newest LibreOffice version yesterday, March 18,
2026. However, under this version, when I hit enter to start a new
paragraph, the lines above (that I have typed) automatically UN-tab
and move to the left margin. How can I keep the already-typed
lines in their original position?
