Hi Fred,

thank you for looking at it. But I know the help and the specification. I would like to know what the TYPE function is actually used for.

Kind regards,
Regina

From LO Help on LO 24.2.7.2 64bit on Mageia 9 64 bit ...
"TYPE

Returns the type of value, where 1 = number, 2 = text, 4 = Boolean value, 8 = formula, 16 = error value, 64 = array.

If an error occurs, the function returns a logical or numerical value.

Syntax

TYPE(Value)

Value is a specific value for which the data type is determined.

Example (see example table above)

=TYPE(C2) returns 2 as a result.

=TYPE(D9) returns 1 as a result."

Hope that helps
Regards
Fred James

Hi spreadsheet users,

do you actually use the TYPE function? If so, what do you use it for? Do you use it directly in the spreadsheet or in a macro?

Background to the question: The ODF TC has received a public comment on the TYPE function, stating that its specification is insufficient. I am working on this issue in the TC.

Kind regards,
Regina
