Regina,

If it's in a spreadsheet sheet, you can rename the ranges used there by
going to Sheet tab, dropping down to

Named Ranges and Expressions...Manage as Mike suggested.

The question was not about menu Sheet > Named Ranges and Expressions but
about menu Data > Define Range. "Named Range" and "Database Range" are
two very different kind of "ranges".

I didn't know about that one… interesting. I was just fiddling around with
it, using LibreOffice 25.2.6.2, and I couldn't figure it out either (other
than just delete it and create a new one, which is at least one step more
than optimal). It looks like it's a new feature that they forgot to finish.

No, it isn't new but exists at least since OpenOffice.org 2.3.

Find more about it in the Section "Database range" in chapter "Calc as a Database" in Calc Guide book. https://books.libreoffice.org/en/CG252/CG25215-CalcAsADatabase.html#toc11

There is a change button, but it doesn't actually change anything. Maybe
someone should file a bug report, or tell us what we are doing wrong.

The bug with request for renaming is https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162319

"Modify" is about the cell range and the settings in part "Options" and that works.

Kind regards,
Regina
