If it's in a spreadsheet sheet, you can rename the ranges used there by going to Sheet tab, 
dropping down to 

Named Ranges and Expressions...Manage as Mike suggested.

I note when I look through the top menu tabs, that this same phrase appears in different places.  
Another suggested you were looking to rename database ranges, not spreadsheet data.  I just learned 
how to do this for a sheet I'm redesigning.  It seems to work pretty well.

I have a question about indexing a named range but that is a question for another topic and I'm new 
here so I wasn't sure this was the appropriate list.  Your question touches on the edge of my 
question...so soon I'll post it.
