I was trying to format the last col, but trying to format a previous col doesn't work any better.
I had no better luck experimenting with other formats (date, ...).
I had the same results when I experimented with a brand-new table.
Luuk has provided a clue: After defining a Number format, do you hit ENTER?
Or, when you put an entry into one of those cells, do you hit ENTER?
ENTER (a legitimate code to confirm a cell's entry in Calc or other spreadsheet) instead inserts a
Paragraph code [meaningless in Calc] when used in a Writer table, which wipes out the cell's
format. That may be an inherent consequence of the XML format (I wonder how it affects a table in
Word), so I'm not sure it can be regarded as a bug. One work-around is to use a tab or cursor key
after the data entry - no ENTER.
You have raised an interesting problem, but at least it has a workable, if not entirely satisfying,
solution. I need to think about whether there is a more satisfying solution (short of changing the
XML file format, an obvious non-starter).
Curiously, in the Format Number dialog box, the three icons following the Format Code line (green
check, yellow quotation balloon, red x) are shaded out. That seems to be the case for all of the
categories. Is this supposed to be?
Those are Add-Edit-Delete for formats not currently in the library, so are shaded out until you
have such a code, which you can then Add or Edit - or, after adding, can Delete from the library.
