Hi Barry. I see you're using Open Office. This mailing list is a support
group for LibreOffice. They're very similar so suggestions offered here may
help.
You should also check OpenOffice support options which can be found at
https://www.openoffice.org/support/
You don't say if you're using Windows or which version. I'll guess it is
Windows. And since you've been using Open Office for four years I'll guess
Windows 10.
So presuming problems on Windows 10
- The files you cannot open, have the icons changed?
- - If the icons changed and
- - - - they are little blank pages, then there is no program set to open
that type of file
- - - - the icons are recognizable, they're just not the OpenOffice icons,
then a program (the wrong one) has been set to open that type of file but
doesn't actually know how to
If the message when trying to open the files is similar to "Select an app
to open this file" or "How do you want to open this file" that's an
indication of exactly those types of problems.
To fix it, and since this is a LibreOffice group, download and install
LibreOffice from
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/
When installing, and if prompted, set it to be the default program to open
documents.
LibreOffice will open, read, and edit all OpenOffice documents.

I've used Open Office ( letters and spreadsheets) for four years or so
without any problem. I recently let my computer be taken away for repairs
because of a virus.
On return, I cannot open my Open Office files. The files are still there
but I can't get into them. Also it appears the program has been removed but
not replaced. I've tried to download the program again, but it tells me
I'm already in the program and I should log in.
I couldn't see anywhere to enable a log in and I could not find a phone
number to call.
I need some help. Can you give me some guidance?
