Why doesn't searching within the spreadsheet work for you?

The Find bar (Ctrl+F) only works on the current sheet, but if you use
the Find & Replace dialog (Ctrl+H) there is an option for "All Sheets"
that allows you to search across the entire file. And yes, you can use
Find & Replace to find something without replacing it.

Approaching this from a different angle, you could convert to PDF,
which should contain all sheets, and then search that pdf for your
word with something like pdfgrep.
