Whilst I've not encountered your specific issue (I've never had to print
labels) I have seen the printer dialogue try and force a specific
orientation.
To overcome it, in the print dialogue, I go to "Properties" under the
printer selection drop-down, select (tick/check) "Use only paper size
from printer preferences" and then it's possible to change the print
orientation.
Worth a look, perhaps?
