I have tried about a dozen times (about 5 or 6 with Notepad, and a fewmore with VIM) without seeing the failure. As I noted earlier, thecombination of Opera browser and Libreoffice seems to work for me. Very odd.

If you open notepad along with writer and Ctl-V in Firefox, Ctl-Cwriter, Ctl-C notepad, does paste in notepad work while not in writer.
It seems hard to get this issue reproducible.
