Unfortunately not, and since I'm not in the IT department I usually don't get the call on those things. It's more of a minor annoyance than a bug (as long as I use Window Explorer file association it's fine), I just wanted to see if this happened to other people. Also the file is actually being generated by a component, dhtmlxgrid (https://docs.dhtmlx.com/grid__index.html, again prior version) so the XLS file may not be completely clean.

I have LibreOffice set up at work to default open XLS files. When I do a

Import options?

If Libreoffice is set to open XLS files, it should just open the file
directly in XLS format, no import required.

If I try to directly open that file in LibreOffice Calc, however,
it kicks it out to Writer. Is this a known bug in LO?
Just noticed your subject says version 4.1? Is that a typo? 4.1 is over
3 years old.

If that is the version you're using, upgrade, and come back if you're
still having problems.

Otherwise, don't expect much (if any) help for such an old version.
