Just a suggestion with the Save button appearing not to dim after saving. Do you have "Allow to save document even when the document is not modified" selected under the LibreOffice > General Options? This sometimes means that the save button does not dim as you can still save again.

Aha: well done; I'd missed that! (Surely this *always* means that the Save icon will not be greyed out?) I'm sure you are right that this is the questioner's problem (and solution).

For the benefit of the questioner (who appears to be using Windows), this option is at Tools | Options... | LibreOffice | General | Document status | Allow to save document even when the document is not modified.
