OSX and Word?
What OS are you using now?
I use Windows 7 and Linux [Ubuntu and Mint]. Do not know OSX, since I cannot afford to deal with a Mac.

--------

Piers Anthony - one of the top scifi/fantasy writers - uses LibreOffice [Writer] for all of his work. He has used LO for several years now, almost since it first came out according to the info I have read a few emails replies I have had from him [been reading his work for over 25 years]. He likes to customize his word processor for his wants/needs and LO works for him. He also uses Linux. He is involved with self-publishing, print-on-demand, and e-book services. Maintains a great list of these on his web site to help new writers sort through the good and bad companies/services they might need.

--------

For the Windows install, you can do a custom one and do come choosing which options will be installed and not installed. That is what I do for any Windows system.

As for Malware, and other nasties, having a good anti-virus system and malware package is important on Windows. I use the free version of Comondo Internet Suite, plus various "cleaners" and protectors to keep my Windows systems free of those pesky nasties.

Hi,

The official website for downloading libreoffice is

http://www.libreoffice.org/

Follow the links and download accordingly.

I can't categorically advise about malware although I have never encountered this problem over several LO installs. And I have never heard of any malware issues.

Have fun and feel free to ask questions.

Cheers

Hello.

I’m just checking that this is the official website for downloading libreoffice.

How can I know.

One more important thing.

This is a new, clean computer. Please, oh please may I not get malware.

I downloaded openoffice from openoffice.org last night and got

each next tab during installation took me to a new ap or extension which I didnt’ want. I noticed after loading a few of them. I thought they were part of the program until I saw an ap for

storm warnings to be sent to my computer? Huh? I stopped the installation there and spent the rest of the night researching how to remove vosotron and file opener from my computer. I even removed Silverlight because I was scared of everything then.

So, as you can tell, I want to be so careful

At the same time, I’m grateful to you guys and to OO for dedication to democratic accessibility.

Yay you. Truly.

Just please reassure me I will get ample warnings and explanations of any extras. I am a writer and need a good word processing program and need to open old files created in last years osx and in word.

Thanks
