Sometimes is works, and sometimes it does not.  But for me, more than 
half of my printer issues were from corrupted user config files.

Right now I run Linux Mint with MATE.  There was chatter on their web 
site about Cinnamon having a lot of issues, a lot more than their MATE 
version.  I use to run Ubuntu 12.04/MATE and will try 14.05/MATE when it 
comes out.

The OP had Portrait issues and you have Landscape issues.  There is 
another thread talking about duplex issues.  For some reason, some 
"specific" setups of Linux seems to have some "weird" printer issues 
that may not show up on other users with the same version of Linux and LO.
