I'm using LibreOffice Version: 4.2.0.1 Build ID:
7bf567613a536ded11709b952950c9e8f7181a4a
with 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

I have a reasonably large document (over 300 pages) which has several
appendices - each of which has specific page style formatting.

So, I created page styles for each of the appendices. At the end of the body
of the text, I did "Insert | Manual Break", checked "Page Break", picked the
style for the first appendix, and DID NOT check the "Change Page Number"
box.

I then repeat the process for each succeeding appendix.

This seems to work fine, and the page numbers continue from the previous
portion just as I would expect. BUT-BUT:

BUT - if I paste or insert anything into ANY of the appendices, the
beginning page for each of the appendices changes to 0 (zero). This can be
confirmed both with the page number displayed in the footers as well as the
"Page n/n" display on the bar at the bottom of Writer.

To "fix" this, I need to go to the end of each part of the document, delete
all of the carriage returns (how can I make the page breaks visible, by the
way?), and then do the "Insert | Manual Break" sequence all over again.

So I've now come to the conclusion that I shouldn't bother redoing this
until I'm finished with the document, as it seems quite Sisyphean to do so.

This is seriously, seriously annoying. I tried duplicating this problem with
a very small document, but of course everything works flawlessly (I think).

So - three questions:
1) Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Is it something I'm doing, or
is this perhaps a bug?

2) I would think that one could view where the page breaks are in a
document, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Is this possible
and, if so, how?

3) Unlike other styles, it doesn't seem possible to create a page style that
is "linked with" (i.e. "based on") another page style. Will this ever be
possible?

Thanks very much for any pointers. I'm spending so much time fighting with
this that I've almost forgotten what it is I'm writing about in the first
place ...

Frank
