Not that I know of, you can even store them on remote storage before you
install them. The Extensions Manager doesn't seem to be particularly
picky as long as the Finder can reach them.

Most of my extensions go into the Download folder by default. If I want
to install them, I open up the Extension Manager from within LO, and
navigate to the Download folder.


Extensions can also be installed from the command line with the unopkg
binary.

The connection to the Extensions site seems to work for me. If I click
on the link at the bottom of the Extensions Manager window, I get taken
to the Extensions and Templates home page on OSX 10.8.5 with LO 4. If I
click on the little icon at the bottom of the startcenter, I also get
taken to the corresponding general home page.

Which version of LO on Mac are you using ?
