As you've noticed, with the "rd" superscript, any text added takes on that format. If you want to keep the "rd" in superscript, but change the following text back to normal, select the text to change and go to:
  Format > Character > Font Position
  Set it to Normal position.

To stop it superscripting the "rd" in the first place:
  Tools > AutoCorrect Options > Localised Options
  Un-tick "Format ordinal numbers suffixes (1st -> 1^st)"
