I'd like to fill the wall of my chart with a custom bitmap of my own creation. Any suggestions?

o Open a (new) drawing (Draw) document.
o Go to Format | Area... | Bitmaps.
o Here you can import an existing bitmap from a file or create and name a new one.

Your new bitmap will now be available in Calc, but you may have to close and reopen your spreadsheet document before it appears.

I trust this helps.
