Hmm, yes it's true that quite a lot of settings are in registry but usually the problems are in the 
User Profile.  It's really easy to rename the user profile so it's a good thing to try first before 
getting bogged down in tricky or time-consuming stuff such as reinstalling.  The commonest source 
of problems is 3rd party Extensions.  However, Extensions are often enormously useful so it's worth 
putting up with an occasional glitch imo
