Virgil,
There are tasks which operate differently because of a divergence of
philosophies between MS and the LO developers.
But, there are a number of functions which operate a lot like
(sometimes exactly like) MS Word.
Ex. Format >Change Case (exactly the same in MS Word and LO) while
Insert > Symbols (Word) and Insert > Special Characters (LO) are very
similar.
What may help newbies is to have a cheat sheet for quick tasks which
are similar (as noted above) and then augment that with more of a FAQ
for the most frequently used tasks for ones as you described where
they deviate quite a bit from one another.
This could help newbies get up to speed a lot faster as most users
probably apply 25-30 tasks in a wordprocessing program regularly. This
cheat sheet coupled with a FAQ could enable them to be functional LO
users while they become, over time, more acquainted with the less
common tasks.
Charles.
