Hi :)
You did the right thing by posting to this list first but your question is waaay beyond the skills
of most people on this list.
I think you need to copy&paste your question to the devs list and maybe ask your own distro's devs
too. It might be worth also asking in the general Gnu&Linux forum
http://www.linuxquestions.org
because they can usually handle almost any distro.
Errrr, it's worth letting people know which distro you are using and version number might help too.
Good luck and happy hunting!
Regards from
Tom :)

Subject: [libreoffice-users] BASIC script how to read/write system files, like /dev/null in Linux

I am trying to write scripts accessing the system files, such as /dev/ttyS0.
If I use "Open" I got the error "Device I/O error" message. Are there any
special function call needed to be done for the system files? User
permission is good as I can access to the file using any other Linux
commands.
Following is the code I tried. It stalled on the first "Open" statement:
Sub Main
Dim iNumber As Integer
Dim aFile As String
aFile = "/dev/ttyS0"
iNumber = Freefile
Open aFile For Output As #iNumber
Print #iNumber, "*IDN?"
close #iNumber
iNumber = Freefile
Open aFile For Input As #iNumber
While not eof(iNumber)
Line Input #iNumber, sLine
If sLine <>"" then
sMsg = sMsg & sLine & chr(13)
end if
wend
Close #iNumber
Msgbox sMsg
End Sub
