Dan,

Sorry for confusing you. But please note that

You are confusing me. You first complain about the figures getting
distorted by the cell you place them in. Now you mention that with my
suggestion the figures are not automatically resized to match the
arrangement in the frame. What is it that you really want?

automatically resizing is not equal to automatically distorting.
What I want is, either using a table, a frame or a several columns page format
(don't know which way would be most efficient), to define first the arrangement
of the figures and then paste them, so that figures adjust themselves to
the predefined arrangement but keeping their ratio, so that they do
not get distorted.
Very seldom the user wants the figures to match a predefined geometry
at the expense of getting distorted, I do not understand why "keep ratio" is
unselected by default in Picture/Type.

I think the example I provided, 4 figures arranged in a 2 x 2 scheme,
is good enough.
Regarding formats, I think that it should not matter, as any figure
should be pasted
without distortion by default.

I've got closer to what I want using a 2 columns page format, but I
had to define the style
and then have to select paste special/Bitmap. And in this way I cannot
make more complex
arrangements, as for example 2 rows with 3 small square figures in the
first row and one
single rectangular figure in the second row.

I think the easiest way would be defining a table, defining the sizes
of the cells and then pasting
the images within the table, getting the images appropriately resized
but without distortion.

Hopefully this clarifies my question.

Thanks for your help,

Agus
