Hi :)
Good to hear you are contacting the devs list. They have more people that have more knowledge
about the issues.

There are lots of good reasons for compiling from source. I was just trying to pin-point the issue
a bit. LiveCd or Virtual Machines or a spare partition in a multi-boot machine can be good ways to
test something without committing it to your main OS. Only if you have unlimited bandwidth and
time tho, obviously.
Regards from
Tom :)

You might get better answers on the devs lists or
iirc or whatever they use.

OK, I will give that a try.

On a brief glance through i noticed a few
Gnu&Linuxy
looking packages mentioned so are you trying to
compile for a Gnome-based Gnu&Linux distro or a
Bsd?

More a kde distribution than gnome.

Have you tried running a pre-compiled version of
LibreOffice first (assuming you're not on Bsd of
course)?  Did that encounter errors or problems?

The problem is that the distribution packagers want to
eliminate all internal libraries, forcing the installation
of
many "new" packages (meaning currently not on the
system).

I object to this for a number of reasons, and just
want to find the quickest way to get just the basic
installation. Compiling it from source almost always
gives the user the most control.

Thank you for your reply.

Nuzhna
