I hear that a lot. You should get a mail program that can be set to ignore HTML. Thunderbird can be set to ignore HTML. I'm sure there are others.

TB, if set to ignore HTML used to give you a blank screen (and a warning?) when messages with only HTML, no text, arrived. I don't know what the latest TB incarnation does.
You must be very careful with that setting. Better if you can set that based on other filter criteria as well; for example, do not allow HTML from that mailing list, but, allow it from your boss, mother, and girl friend.
