Thanks very much to Manfred Krause, "webmaster for Kracked Press", and Tom Davies: Removing (or renaming) ".../bundled" worked.

Next question: How can I add Spanish, French and German as optional languages? I used to be able to specify them for selections of text; now I don't see how. "Tools -> Extension Manager" lists "Dictionnaires francaise. 4.2.1", German and Spanish as available. However, I cannot find them with "Tools -> Languages" nor "Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Writing Aids".

      Thanks again.
      Spencer

Hello:

I've been unable to install spell checkers with LibreOffice under
Windows 7.

Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Writing Aids" shows NO available language modules. "Tools -> Extension Manager" produced a list of 43 available extensions. I select one and click Add. This opens a window indicating it wants a file with extension .oxt, .uno.pkg, or .zip, and I
can't find any such that seems to fit.
The Extension Manager shows the *installed/(added)* extensions.
You don't need to install the extensions once again.

Suggestions? This is under Windows 7 with LibreOffice 3.4.2 and 3.4.3.
I both cases, I installed the companion
LibO_3.4.2_Win_x86_helppack_en-US.exe /
LibO_3.4.3_Win_x86_helppack_en-US.exe. ("Control Panel -> Programs and
Features" shows both LibreOffice 3.4 and LibreOffice 3.4 Help Pack
(English).
A first workaround:
spell checking not working in LBO 3.4.3

Good luck

The only things I get in that "language modules" is Hunspell - which is part of Ubuntu
and the extras I install, like
http://libreoffice-na.us/English/add-ons-extensions/LanguageTool-1.2.oxt
plus the extras, like dictionaries, I installed after I installed the LO package.

Until the LO extension system is finished, try installing some helpful extensions from this page.
http://libreoffice-na.us/English/extensions.html

Language Tool, Writer's Tools, Writer Extras, Pagination, etc., are the one I would start with. You should see Language Tool in that "language module" section. Also, any grammar checkers installed should show up there.

This page
http://libreoffice-na.us/English/dictionary.html
has many dictionaries, thesauruses, and other similar writing aids.

For English, I would start with the one listed as: "English Dictionary - modified from the original version". That has a both the dictionaries and thesauruses for US English, plus some GB English.

As for the workaround in the "nabble" link, for Linux, I tend to delete first the hidden folder of ".libreoffice" and see if that fixes the problems. When you restart LO, that folder will be recreated with all your new defaults. If that does not fix the problem, then I go deeper. It usually works for me.
