Works fine here: Ubuntu 11.04, LibreOffice 3.4.2
I'm running the official LibreOffice version. In past times, Ubuntu only updated to new versions of OpenOffice (before LibreOffice existed) when a new version of Ubuntu came out. This has changed since then. But to get the updated version, I would have to uninstall the OpenOffice version that came with Ubuntu, and then install the the updated version directly from OpenOffice version. It is quite easy to do in Linux. The download version from OpenOffice or LibreOffice isn't as pretty as the ones from Ubuntu, but I've never had any issues with anything not working. Once when I had the direct OpenOffice version installed, and then did an upgrade to a new version of Ubuntu, both their version and the OpenOffice version were installed at the same time. The install did not pick that up. That created issues with the spell checker not working, and the calc spreadsheet not calculating correctly in the Ubuntu version. I uninstalled everything related to open office, did a clean install of the OpenOffice version, and everything worked perfectly. Is it possible you have two different versions installed at the same time?
