Hi :)
1. The Java 1.6.0_26 seems to cause a few problems. The best one seems to be
the 1.6.0_21 although the 1.6.0_22 is ok too. It's odd because your web-browser
probably uses the 1.6.0_26 with no trouble but it causes a lot fo problems with
LibreOffice so it's worth having both installed and only enable the 22 or 21 in
LibreOffice.

2. The "experimental (unstable)" features tend to be very stable and includes a
ton of quite useful stuff, including macros. It is unlikely to have caused any
crashes (possible but unlikely).

3. Dunno but sounds intriguing.

The 3.4.x branch has so far been slightly less stable than the 3.3.x series but
the new 3.4.2 is supposed to be very stable. I think it's worth trying the
3.3.3 and/or the 3.4.2 alongside your current install
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel

If you want to "get back to 'factory defaults'" then 'just' rename the user
profile
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
This keeps all your current stuff (extensions, configurations, templates and
stuff) available under the new name but forces LibreOffice to ignore them for
now and just create a fresh set that would be like a fresh install of
LibreOffice.

In Linux the default path is
/home/username/.libreoffice/3/user
so something like
sudo mv /home/username/.libreoffice/3/user
/home/username/.libreoffice/3/backup-2011-08-02
but to find the real path on your machine in any OS try
Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Paths
and then something like the "Auto correct" apth minus the autocorr folder will
be the path to the whole configfolder / user profile.

LibreOffice is seldom all that unstable though. It's usually the machine
needing a bit of routine maintenance.

In Windows try defrag & disk clean-up
Start 'button' - "All Programs" - Accessories - "System Tools"
While either the defrag or Disk Cleanup is running it is best to avoid doing
anything else with your machine. Disk Clean-up has a pop-up after about
15mins. Deslect "Setup files" and perhaps a couple of other things and then
leave it to run for ages. Defrag usually takes hours unless you have run it
recently.

In Gnu&Linux (eg Ubuntu, Mageia or something) use your package manager to "fix
broken packages" and stuff.
Regards from
Tom :)

I suggest you to give a try to the vanilla version of LibreOffice :

This looked to be a great suggestion but before going down that road (I was
still reviewing posts in search of similar issues) I found a few suggestions
that I THINK have solved the problem. I've done some heavy editing and
played with some files and have had no further issues so I'm calling my
problem solved at this point.

I changed a couple of things but if I were to wager I'd say it was this that
fixed it:
1. Under LibreOffice -Java I verified that I have actually *marked* the
Java run-time environment that I want being used. Currently that is
1.6.0_26 but neither that one NOR 1.6.0_22 that is also shown were actually
"enabled". Also verified that there is no Openjdk listed there. Apparently
some have problems with that. Both of mine actually are Sun versions.
I also did these two things:
2. Disabled Enable experimental (unstable) features. No idea why I had
that enabled.
3. Enabled Open/Save Dialogs option to Use LibreOffice dialogs. I've
read that this not being selected may cause issues with the SaveAs option
according to reading.

So for now she seems to be running stable and I've not had the ap crash NOR
have I had the system lock up or freeze, or do anything weird at all since
changing those things.

Once again, this forum has helped resolve something that's been nagging me
for MONTHS.
This is me now!
Many thanks to those who contribute and keep the knowledge flowing.
