Hi :)
Tools - Options - +Load/Save - General
Change the middle option "Odf format version" from "1.2 (Extended)" to the older
"1.0/1.1". This sets the ODF formats to the ones used by MS Office 2007 &
2010. Hopefully they will start using the newer formats in their next
versions.
However,if you want to be compatible with MS Office 2003 and earlier then it's
also worth changing the 2 drop-downs at the bottom of the same page
1. "Text document" from "ODF Text document" to "Microsoft Word (98/2000/Xp)"
Just roll back upwards one place in that 2nd drop-down.
2. Change that 1st drop-down to "Spreadsheet" and the 2nd back up the list 2
places (avoiding the templates options" to set it as "Microsoft Excel
(98/2000/Xp)"
3. "Presentations" to "Microsoft Powerpoint (98/2000/Xp)" (2 places again)
There are other options in the Options pop-up box that might be worth exploring
but those are the main 4 things to change. Calc uses slightly different formats
for displaying the formulas but if you save in Calc and then open in Excel each
program show the correct formula for itself although appear to look slightly
different on the screen. Most people wont notice because it all just magically
works.
There are some "Getting Started" guides
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/
and it is also worth installing the help-pack for your language alongside the
main install.
A good initial deployment strategy might be to keep MS Office on all machines so
that people can stay with familiar systems when they are against a sharp
dead-line but can use LibreOffice when they are in less of a rush.
Perhaps a 3rd of machines could have LibreOffice as the default Suite but with
MS Office available from the right-click "Open with ..." menu. The rest of the
machines could use the default for installing LibreOffice which is to leave MS
Office as the default with LibreOffice available from the same right-click menu
to "Open with ..". When you install LibreOffice on the last screen, the one
with the "Finish" button rather than "Next" there are about 3 tick-boxes that
allow you to set LibreOffice as the dfault Suite. As i just said i think those
are unticked by default.
Both Suites co-operate when using the older formats of the other. Using the
newer formats usually works but not always quite so reliably.
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Subject: [libreoffice-users] default save as ms office format
Hello,
We're trying to deploy libreoffice to our users, and want to set the
default document format to the office formats. Some users still use ms
office, and so the default file format must remain ms-compatible.
Is there a way to give a command line switch upon installation to set this
preference?
eg for default opening with LibO is /msoreg=1
Met vriendelijke groeten, Cordialement, Regards,
DRIES FEYS
