Hi all,
I've searched this forum for "web query", "querytables", and "query tables",
as well as Googling, but most of the information I've found is pretty dated
(circa 2007). I'm looking for some way to emulate the QueryTables "web
query" functionality that is present in Excel
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/162080). I've also found the OO developer
guide
(http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/Spreadsheets/Spreadsheet_Documents),
but it's just not organized in a way I can easily use.
I am trying to collect multiple quarters of data from the ADVFN site (e.g.
http://www.advfn.com/p.php?pid=financials&btn=istart_date&mode=quarterly_reports&symbol=GLW&istart_date=0),
where the quarters change as the "istart_date" URL parameter changes, so it
doesn't seem like "Insert->Link to External Data" is going to work well for
me.
I was able to find a function that can pull in stock prices, but it uses
Yahoo! quote's CSV file output
(http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=16741). This would be
nice, but I need more than just stock prices, which is why I'm using the
ADVFN site.
If there's not a "baked-in" function that works like QueryTables, I could
probably write a scraper, but it seems like much of that is built-in
already; I just don't know what it's called.
Thanks for your time,
Chris
