It's not a question of formatting. The OP wants to type 123 and for the cell
to display $1.23

The only solution I can see is to have a column where you type the values
with no point (e.g. 123, 300, 98) and have it divided by 100 in  another
column and formatted as currency. These calculated values can even be on a
separate worksheet so that you have one column for quick data entry and
another worksheet where all is presented neatly :)
