Hi all, Having upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04, I completely removed the

First off, it is not necessary to uninstall anything. When you install
LO 3.4.0 from the .deb packages they will install in /opt/libreoffice
and will *not* interfere with your 11.04 (U) packages.

If you wish to try both to compare, I recommend that you reinstall LO
from Synaptic, make sure that all is working, and then install the .deb
from LO. The only issue that you are likely to encounter is the
desktop-integration deb (menus):

$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb
[sudo] password for nattyvbox:
Selecting previously deselected package libreoffice-debian-menus.
dpkg: regarding libreoffice3.4-debian-menus_3.4-4_all.deb containing
libreoffice-debian-menus:
  libreoffice-debian-menus conflicts with libreoffice-bundled
   libreoffice-core provides libreoffice-bundled and is present and
installed.
dpkg: error processing libreoffice3.4-debian-menus_3.4-4_all.deb
(--install):
  conflicting packages - not installing libreoffice-debian-menus
Errors were encountered while processing:
  libreoffice3.4-debian-menus_3.4-4_all.deb

I had an error with the menus when I installed the current DEB 64-bit version on 10.04 LTS. For some reason the menus installed BEFORE I ran the DEB in the desktop-..... folder.

You can overcome this by not installing& creating a menu item to open
/opt/libreoffice/soffce

Now, in order to keep the two user profiles separate:

$ gksu gedit /opt/libreoffice/program/bootstraprc

Edit the following line:

UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/.libreoffice/3

to

UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/.libreofficedeb/3

save and start /opt/libreoffice/soffce

You can now start (U)LO at the same time and run together if you wish to
compare the two versions. Your (U)LO profile will use ~/.libreoffice/3
and your deb installed version will use /.libreofficedeb/3

And to answer your URE question: the URE folder is required
(/opt/libreoffice/ure) - it is the UNO runtime environment package.
