It often sounds sexier with the slightly foreign sound (eg such as "the everyone") but it's
probably better to be right. "Explains" is active and makes it more exciting whereas "explained"
puts it in the past. "Explained" is correct though.
One advantage of only getting things like this only 90% right is that it draws attention to the
international nature of the project. So, it's a feature not a bug ;)
