(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CafePress) - reason for (at least) two
shop offerings was the sometimes prohibitive shipping cost/delay
between continents.
So if someone would volunteer to setup a demo shop with CafePress,
and share the feedback, that would be cool.
For the final http://shop.libreoffice.org, I'd propose that to not
resolve to one single shop, but to a landing page leading to
different offerings - if CafePress or something else proves viable.

I think having the page as the entry point of the shop and then point to
all the different sites that have LO merchandise would be the best
idea. Having it sorted by regions where it is being shipped from, to
help save shipping costs, would be good as well. People who live in
Europe then could have a selection of countries to choose from. People
in the USA could go by states.
Shipping costs are bad between Europe and the USA. I sent a small [size
and weight] package to Malta and it cost me about $13 to ship, when it
could have shipped across the country for only $2 or less.
I know a company that has a minimum order of 4 pieces for either
embroidered or silkscreen items. They have a good price. The problem
for merchandise sites is the fact that they are printing 1-up items or
they have to keep a stock of them hoping to get more sales.
As for selections I would go with the following:
tee-shirt
sweet-shirt
zip-up sweet with a hood.
polo-style shirt - for a more "business like" style for events workers
bags of several types including laptop ones
hats of several types
and any other items that people like to have their favorite product name on.
As for designs, well I like the mascot idea with saying, for the "cute"
market. Then we need one that looks more professional for the people
who would rather use that type.
