There is no need to worry. LibreOffice is not going to drop supporting as many MSO file formats as it can. Every update of 3.4.x seems to be able to do .docx files better.

ASK why they require .docx instead of .doc file format. This is the same issue that went to court that a University required a certain type of Mac laptop to be used instead of a Windows one, or requiring an iPhone or iPad for some "special purpose app". The courts told the Universities that they could not require a specific phone or computer for their students. That is discrimination and if they want Federal monies or do not want to have big discrimination charges, they had to stop the hardware requirements.

SO, the University needs to give a real big reason to require .docx over .doc. Since the MSO package that reads .docx also reads .doc files, then either they have to except .doc files or could face discrimination issues and even civil rights issues for requiring you to use .docx files when they can read the .doc files just as well.

Maybe if someone would ask why they have made the .docx requirement. Actually, you can tell me which University it is and I will ask the question without giving names except mine. I really want to know why they require that format.

Actually the LOC started using .docx formats and then it had to stop using it and go back to the older formats, since at that time MSO's .docx format just came out less than a year before that. The flack that came out that a part of the US government was requiring you to switch to MSO 2007 instead of Office 2003, XP, 97, etc.. They had to stop using the 2007 formats or face a law suit themselves over it.

So would you like to let me know which University is requiring you to use .docx over .doc? You can let me know off the list.

What is USN-FR? US Navy? My father and mother was in the Navy during Korea.

Just FYI, the OOo extensions we-page is NOT reliable. The link in LibO
is still to the OOo page.

BTW I go to University and, sadly, MS Office docx format is a
requirement. So, please continue to support this feature. I know the
ODF purist will object. It is needed.

Hi,

Should I upload templates and extensions for testing?
yes, but be aware they'll stay if we change from beta to final
state ;-)

Thus we need a contact (email or project site) for every extension
/ template.
