So, Ubuntu now the world's the most famous and widely used gnu&linux used an

Ubuntu advertising campaign was talked about inside the free software environment because it was totally unusual for the Linux market, but not inside the community of prospect users.

Ubuntu is very visible in the IT environment, but is invisible in the market at large, although has improved since they have stopped wasting money with advertising and have invested in a community.

TDF objective is not to have an advertising campaign which is talked about seven years later, but to grow steadily both the user community and the prospect community over the months and the years.

Although I am not talking on behalf of the entire Steering Committee, I can certainly tell that TDF is not going to invest money in advertising at least in 2011 (but I suspect it will be for several years to come).

There are many ways to spend a marketing budget, and advertising - especially in the office suite environment - is definitely one of the least effective (and more expensive).
