nu (ν) is the degrees of freedom in the calculation, and all that
means that the code didn't properly check for bad inputs like entering
0 as value for ν or rather the UI did not - using 0 would be resulting
in a division by 0 and that's not gonna work...

So it is another way of saying that an input check/limitation for the
nu/degrees-of-freedom value was introduced to prevent a crash/assert.
