Sorry, no idea about the history of those function/no idea which one
is there just for compatibility and which ones are the new ones/which
ones are old. (and old is relative, see below)

I can only tell you that if you don't change the translation of one of
those, then one will end up untranslated/with the English string.

GAMMA, CHISQDIST, CHISQINV have been introduced back in 2008. That
issue has a detailed description, so that might already answer your
questions?
