This was one helpful suggestion in this bikeshedding thread. Id like to close this
topic here now though and move the discussion to the next ESC call -- whoever
is interested in providing the actual _work on the code_ for this should feel
invited.

Note though that an idea has to be considered incomplete without offering a
good migration plan for existing data too.
