Sorry for the delay in answering:
I found out that not ./configure caused the problem, but ./dmake/configure
line 8411 of this configure says
  if test `sed -n "s/.*$ac_delim\$/X/p" conf$$subs.sed | grep -c X` = 97; then
As I'm not well versed with sed, I daren't tell you what which(?) variable looks like.
