Bear in mind that usually micro-optimizing code isn't worth the time as modern optimizing compilers are capable to squeeze more than a human might think of in some cases. However, avoiding unnecessary function calls is always an improvement the compiler can't optimize away, and eliminating such obviously duplicated conditions IMHO also improved legibility of the code.
