[2] - I think a really fun and chewy task - that needs more API
documentation for this piece, is the undo/redo 'easy hack' in
starmath :-) if you're interested.

Yep, I was thinking of having a go at this. I'm a physicist, and all
my colleagues use LaTeX for document preparation (well, the theorists,
anyway, the experimentalists often use Word, but then they don't need
many equations :-P), or Powerpoint or Keynote for lecture / conference
slides, because the equation creation and rendering in OO.o is
painful.

So yes, improving that would be a subject close to my heart :-)
