Hmm; Kohei - did you add this one ? Christoph - do you have a thought
or two ?

Kohei added this one, if I read the wiki page history right.

If Calc had a clean way to import data from a text file, then I'd love to see
this go, but right now, it would be missed.

So - can you expand on what such a clean way might look like ?

Yikes! Don't get me started ;-)

The current file handling strategy makes it trivially easy--likely, even--for
File > Open/Save to lose data and/or work, even for expert users. That includes
working with text file data in Calc, and that's why I use/recommend Insert >
Sheet From File instead of File > Open.

Ideally, File > Open/Save would guarantee that the user's data and work are
saved faithfully.

For other modes of data access, something like File > Import/Export, or Save
Copy As, could be used.

There are a couple of open issues for this, but nothing beyond some discussion:
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=11393
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=74415

Anyway, that's a much, much larger and longer-term issue than what menu items
are included.

I suppose it's fair to say there's no clear consensus on what the "right way"
would look like either.
