Hi Eyal,

I’m totally with you. We are a cooperative fully owned by users and we would never support any kind
of spyware. We are working on a third way (which I will explain during the call) and even that one
must be an explicit opt in. Please stay sceptical, that is highly appreciated - too many
people/companies played awful games with users.

I am staunchly opposed to LO shipping with any sort of data collection
by default. It's better not to have user metrics then to install spyware.

I would only accept something which meets the following criteria:

1. An add-on; not included in the default installer.
2. Not directly suggested to users upon installation (i.e. no "Would you
like to help us blah blah blah?" which installs the spyware; that's
manipulative).
3. Every single transmission of data requires explicit authorization,
with a review dialog that gives a good enough idea of what data is
transmitted. Alternatively, prominent visual indication on the LO
windows that activity info is being gathered.
4. Personally-identifying information scrubbing mechanism, before
transmission.
5. Easy to remove the spyware.

Will try to make the meeting.

PS - Once you install spyware, the tendency is to spy on more and more
activity. Let's not go down that road.

Hi all,

this is a very early invitation to a meeting in two weeks, which
hopefully allows you to schedule this slot.

PolyPoly [1] is a start-up company with the goal to collect user data in
a fair and transparent way and to allow combining information by keeping
full control. Bjoern had a talk at the LibreOffice conference and
recommended it for LibreOffice. In fact we need user metrics for various
questions, for example the default UI [3], while we clearly have
problems with representativity in own surveys [4].

The plan for this meeting is to collect ideas, outline areas for
investigation, and prepare the next steps. As always: Everyone is
welcome to join the call and share their opinion. The meeting will be
held on Wednesday, July/13, 20:00 CEST/GMT+2 resp. 6pm UTC at
https://jitsi.documentfoundation.org/design.

Cheers,
Heiko
