Hello Heiko,
Thank you for your response.
My main concern is the 'replace' functionality, which previously
declared the number of items that are found and replaced as a popup. Now
this information is written somewhere in the dialog (ctrl+H), but it is
not in a way that screen readers can read it as before.
This can be fixed in two ways:
1) Exposing this text to the screen readers
2) Going back to the popup
My idea is that going back to the popup would be better, not only
because MS Word use it from the old versions to the latest version, but
because the information itself is something important, and in this way
it can not be ignored by the user.
I'm not a fan of popups, but I think sometimes they are necessary. For
example, when you want to confirm or announce something important (as
here).
Regards,
Hossein

Having a hard time to find the information in both v5.2 and 7.4. There
is no number in the quick find bar (ctrl+F) nor the dialog (ctrl+H).
If you plan to show another information similar to "Reached the end of
the document" telling in all other cases "In total, %d places were
found." this might be a good improvement. However, in case of only one
occurrence you are always at the end (or the beginning) and the number
would never be shown.

Hello,
Please look at this commit:
DIALOG: Improvements to the Find & Replace dialog.
https://git.libreoffice.org/core/commit/beeef9
It has provided improvements to the "Find and Replace" dialog. On the
other hand, it created a regression in accessibility, because the
number of found/replaced items were no longer announced by the screen
readers like NVDA. The problem is discussed in tdf#117173:
Bug 117173 - Search Dialog does not provide search results to
Assistive Technology tools at 5.2 and later
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117173
In this Gerrit submission:
tdf#117173 Add popup for # of items found/replaced
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/129649
I tried to re-introduces the popup for the number of found/replaced
items, making the screen readers able to read the number of
found/replaced items. The search result label is currently kept in its
place, and it is updated as before.
This behavior is similar to MSO, from the oldest versions to the
latest. The popup for the number of found and replaced is still
available in MSO 2019.
I would like to know the idea of design people on this change.
Regards,
Hossein
