But apparently you can do both, don't understand why not always run in

I do not like compatibility modes at all. Such settings are completely
incomprehensible for foreign applications and hinder the promotion of
ODF. They are hidden for most users and produce unexpected behavior.
In this special case I do not see, why the user should be restricted to
use one or the other surface.
Therefore I have introduced a flag to distinguish ODF rendering from
MS Office rendering. The "Material" drop-down contains now an item
"Metal ODF" and "Metal MSO". And that is the reason I write to the list.
A flag would be some tools > option > compatibility setting. Much better
than having two _materials_ doing the same here but different things there.
What do you mean by "the same here but different things there"? The idea
is to define a surface, that looks like the definition of 'metal' in
current ODF, and another surface, that looks like the rendering of
fc3DMetallic in MS Office. All needed information to distinguish it,
would be contained in the ODF file format.
I(f you cannot do this, use at least "Material OOXML".
That would be wrong in content. OOXML does not contain this kind of
extruded custom shapes at all. And it is not yet clear, how the
"3dscene" and "sp3d" elements of OOXML will be imported.
Extruded custom shapes like in ODF are similar available in MS Office
binary format, Rich Text Format and VML.
In addition the item "Metal MSO" might need a different image.
Currently I use the same icon as for "Metal ODF". But I think adding a
new icon could be done separately after the patch is integrated in
master.
Would not be required if the compatibility option is a true
compatibility flag.
Kind regards,
Regina
